Counted by quantity or by serial number

Each piece of equipment is counted one of two ways. You choose it in the Counting field when you add the equipment.

Last updated:

By quantity

For cables, clamps and other gear where only the number matters. The warehouse knows that you own 40 DMX cables, not which ones. You set Quantity in stock now, and later stock changes go through Change stock: bought, written off or stock count.

By serial number

For expensive gear where every unit counts. Each unit has its own serial number and page.

  1. Choose By serial number and list the serial numbers, one per line.
  2. Add more later on the equipment card with + Add units.
  3. A unit that is gone for good is removed with Write off and a reason; its history stays.

In a project you still plan a quantity, for example 4 spotlights. When loading, you pick the exact units from the free ones, and the availability panel shows where each unit is and when it is due back.

Can I change it?

Only while the equipment has no stock history yet. After the first stock change or unit the field is locked, so the history stays correct. Consumables are always counted by quantity.
